Motivational Interviewing (MI)
- How it Works:
MI involves collaborative conversations between the therapist and the patient. The therapist helps the patient explore their reasons for change, resolve ambivalence, and build motivation. It is often used in combination with other therapies.
Pros and Cons
Pros:
• Non-confrontational and patient-centered.
• Enhances motivation and readiness for change.
• Can be quickly implemented and integrated with other treatments.
Cons:
• May not be sufficient as a standalone treatment.
• Effectiveness depends on the skill of the therapist.
